Team Steed Strikes Again!

Howard Steed

The eagerly anticipated re-match between South's two most improved (some might disagree!) squads started well with both teams pressing hard to secure an early advantage. The first half was conducted at a frenetic pace but alas neither team could quite find the back of the net.

The deadlock was broken early in the second half by a nicely timed pass to MoM Rupert Epsley, loitering on the far post, who calmly slotted it past the M4s' keeper. The home team's lead was quickly neutralised, however, by a long ball out of midfield which found 'Fifty-goal Frampton' deep inside the M5s' twenty-three. He was easily able to shake off his marker for a one-against-one with M5s' debutante keeper, Charlie Williamson: the M4s striker calmly dispatched the equaliser. One-one with plenty of bragging rights still to play for.

The home team pressed hard to re-establish their advantage and it wasn't long before midfield workhorse, Ash Dookun, found space to fire in a blistering cross which Ben Williamson skillfully volleyed into the back of the away team's net.

In one final flourish the M4s' feisty midfielder, Matt Smith, let rip from just inside the D but in true 'Radford-esque' style, defender Steed managed to get a kneecap between the ball and the goal. After lengthy discussion between the two umpires it was judged that the shot had been heading wide rather than on target and a short corner was awarded instead of a flick, much to the relief of the home team!

A keenly contested match, which once again emphasises what a great mix of talent (both young and old!) we have in the M4s/M5s this season.

Great work in attack leading to a well deserved goal.
