M1 0-6 March Town Mens 1

Top of the table March Town proved way too strong for a very under strength Cambridge South side on Saturday, and ran out convincing six-nil winners to keep alive their hopes of promotion.

March set their stall out to dominate from the first whistle and overwhelmed South in the first half, taking a five-nil lead. Only a controversially awarded penalty flick (the fourth awarded against South in the last four games) could be considered unlucky. All the others arose as a result of slick passing, movement and clinical finishing by the March side coupled with weak defence from Cambridge South.

The real prospect of a double figure score and complete humiliation was at least averted in the second half as South played more combatively, with midfielder Johnny Tostevin playing particularly well. In addition, March seemed to take their foot off the pedal and so only added a single further goal, from a short corner. The final scoreline matched the result from earlier in the season between these two sides and confirmed a significant gulf in class between the teams.
