Men's 2nds beat Cambridge City 5

South started confidently against bottom of the table City and got an early goal through the Greaves-Lewis short corner routine, with an Andy Lewis shot parried and then John Greaves being on hand to pick up the pieces and shoot in from close range. A second goal followed soon after, with Jon Taylor scooping the ball in following a melee near the line. Andy Lewis got the third, taking a pass from the ever purposeful Stuart Creed, who was dominating midfield with Korstanje, to blast the ball in off the keeper.

At this stage South took the foot off the gas a little, allowing City to grab one goal back just before half time. This was somewhat fortuitous, as the shot was going well wide before it took a wicked deflection to evade the South keeper.

This gave City more confidence and early in the second half they grabbed another, with another deflection off an unfortunate defender. Keeper Tim Poole didn't allow these pieces of bad luck to distract him from another formidable performance as he prevented a number of shots with brave dives at the feet of City forwards.

Positional changes tightened things up for South and Jon Taylor got his second goal from another short corner, again from close in. Although City got a third goal, South made the match secure with skipper Greaves netting his second from the tricky two feet range, again off a short, with Taylor following up just too late to get what would have been a well deserved hat-trick.
