Mixed Match #3 - St Ives

Colin T

A few observations (in bullet point format, as I have seen others do match reports like this and it seems efficient and I haven't heard anyone moaning about this so I will assume everyone is ok with my corner cutting) of yesterday's fun and games at Fortress Long Road:

  • Matt S-G has a dog that looks identical to Kim's pooch, except it has male parts to it (as pointed out to me by Kim in what seemed like a game of spot the difference).

  • The first half was a lot closer than the second half (I take full responsibility, as I think I was the cause of another three goals to the opposition in the second half)

  • Peasron is an excellent attacking defender (seriously Chris, you should try defence out as you have more pitch to run from/get better value for money).

  • Wizard is still doing his wizardry down the wings.

  • Katie's performance rightly earned her a winning share of the MOM votes (a three-way tie between her, Wizard and me, all receiving two votes; eight people in total got nominated out of fourteen!)

  • Everyone (apart from me) played awesome hockey and it was a good fun game, despite the score.

  • The new stick needs some getting used to and to everyone's amusement I launched an aerial on to the rugby pitch (I was actually really pleased with how far it went to be honest).

  • Georgie (aka Harriet) hurt her ankle but obviously learnt from my mistake and didn't try to 'run it off' but subbed herself for a bit.

  • Joe, Tim and Jason are legends for doing their umpiring duties.

  • Jack is our most attended fan, having attended the last two matches, followed closely by Matt S-G's better half (one match).

  • Teas were enjoyed outside in the wooded bench area at Long Road as we couldn't break into Cantabs without the alarm going off.

  • Emma came to the rescue and brought a load of cans of drink; I purchased what was left and am steadily working my way through them.

  • The pizza people forgot to send us pizzas but when they finally arrived they were awesome, as usual.

  • The BBQ pizza is the best, followed in close second by the one with jalapeños on it (what is that thing above the 'n'?)

  • Andy T completely forgot to come.

  • St Ives are my favourite mixed team to play against.

  • Get someone to oil/WD-40 the lock on the metal shed before it gives up the ghost.

  • I need to send Douglas the match fees I took (which I'm about to spend on beer at a pub quiz).

Thanks to everyone who played, watched and helped out!

A stray aerial - nailed the height and distance but the co-ordinates were all wrong (it landed on the rugby pitch).
