A View From the Back

Rob gave the M4s some sound advice before the game, including a warning that the M5s would be fired up and we needed to be ready and on our game. How right was that prediction! The M5s were relentless and, for at least the first twenty minutes, they were on top and winning all the fifty-fifty balls. This culminated in a goalmouth scramble with three shots being saved, firstly by the keeper and then by a defender’s foot and finally a chest. The resulting penalty flick was expertly despatched by Shahbaz. Nil-one, and the M4s dazed and confused!

As the half continued the tide slowly turned and, from the match reporter’s position in defence, it was hard to see how and why it changed. However, three goals in quick succession by the M4s just before half time changed the feel of the game. Of those goals, Jelley had the stand out moment with a lifted effort on his reverse side over the prone keeper.

Half time, three-one

More sound advice at half time from Rob, to be the first to score in the second half, and the M4s were now fired up - at last. Three more quick goals arrived early in the second half and the result, but not the score, was now settled. The M5s were undaunted by the score line and were still doggedly determined. A seventh goal arrived for the M4s but, despite this, a well worked break by the M5s resulted in Adrian lobbing the out-rushing George and providing the M5s with a well deserved final say in an entertaining and friendly intra-club clash.

The match reporter would like to give more details of the M4 goals scored. But he was a long way from the action and frankly it's not that interesting for someone who rarely leaves his own half and hasn’t ever scored for South. So he can’t. What can be said is well done to the goal scorers, Simon Ta (two goals), Paul S, Rob B, Ollie, Jelley and Man of the Match, Jimmy. Jimmy in full flight takes some stopping and, added to this, his ability on the ball makes him an asset to any South side.

Final score, seven-two.
