A Match Report by Lauren (Mostly) About Izzy (and Some Hockey)

Lauren Brown

Lesser teams may have been put off by the thought of playing a 4.30pm game of hockey in the howling winds of Storm Brian – but not the L2s and certainly not Izzy, who had woken up that morning and decided she was going to have a great game! Which was more than could be said for some of the rest of the team, who were loading up on energy drinks. Izzy’s doctor alter-ego announced she would not be resuscitating anyone who had a heart attack on the pitch (following consumption of a Red Bull, or cheaper equivalent). But no fear – we were pretty sure Emma wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to straddle someone… (to give them medical attention…obviously).

Izzy and the rest of the L2s got off to a great start with Eimear scoring in the first minute of the game following a fab charge up the pitch by Izzy from first push back. Another three goals followed very quickly; one from Izzy (and two from Eimear). Unfortunately, our match reporter missed most of these opening goals whilst playing 'guess the jelly bean flavour' with ex-manager, Jack Chalk, on the sideline.

It was a quiet game for Emma in goal - in contrast to Izzy’s game - with limited action; one (pathetic) kick of the ball to the halfway line, worthy of a LoM vote, and having her moment of glory stolen by a fab clearance from Lucy – also worthy of a LoM vote! Sure Izzy could teach her a thing or two from her previous life as a goalkeeper!

Nomads came back much stronger in the second half but South continued their dominance. Another goal from Izzy and one from Katherine made it six-nil to South at the final whistle. Turns out when we start the game awake we get results – who knew?! That would be all those energy drinks paying off… #noheartattacks

Dani took home the full collection of match accolades – MoM for great positioning, fab tackling and breaking up play; LoM for causing a hockey player pile-up and accidentally marking a Nomads player off the pitch on to the sidelines until the moment she put her jumper on and Dani realised she was probably no longer a threat(!) Lauren somehow managed to avoid nomination for stealing all of the jumpers.

The 21st of October will be remembered for Izzy’s fantastic baking and the ground-breaking revelation that cans of Coke fit really nicely in Izzy’s car’s driver’s side door. I’d say you had to be there, but I’m not even sure that helped… And, of course, the date the L2s took top spot in the league for the first time… Bring on Haverhill next week!
