Goal-fest in St Ives

Lou Walker

After a bit of last minute availability panic (can't understand why, I mean who wouldn't want to start a game at 5pm away on a cold November afternoon?) we assembled a squad of thirteen to head to St Ives. A big thank you to everyone who played and especially goalkeeper, Emma S, who stepped in last minute to play her second match of the day.

Expectations were high, with absent captain Laurie hoping for an improvement on last week's fourteen-nil victory. We were trying out a new 3-4-3 formation to be a bit more attacking, and it worked beautifully. Everyone worked their socks off, and there were lots of great goals for which I'm struggling to remember the details of each cos there were so many! Lucy scored two early goals in quick succession, then St Ives bounced back to score from a break straight up the pitch. At half time we were seven-one up and Louise encouraged the team to, "Imagine it's still nil-nil," and keep up our excellent pace. We certainly did, and bagged another nine.

There was a wide spread of MoM votes reflecting an excellent team performance. Lauren B had a great first game back, lurking high in the D to put away a haul. Dani scored two goals and a penalty flick, receiving a few MoM votes as well as Lemon. As well as great finishing when it mattered, what helped us to win this game was speed, great passing and movement, and overall teamwork.

Being a bit agressive and falling over (but played really well and scored plenty!)
