And the Moral of This Story is NEVER Suggest 15 Ladies Got Fat Over Xmas…(Even if it is Highly Motivational)

Hannah Muncey

Saturday 6th January saw the Ladies' 3s face their toughest opposition yet, the Royston 3s who were sitting second in the league. With Laurie keen to remain undefeated, Louise and Jess keen to beat their old club and the rest of us keen to see if we could move our bodies after Christmas, we were in for a big match!

Fortunately Kath showed true dedication to the team by carb-loading thoroughly in advance (ripping her trackies during the warm up as a result). However, after a delayed start and Olivia forgetting which side of the pitch to start on, we were finally on the pitch and ready to play. To start levels of nervous energy and ‘bashing the ball and hoping for the best’ were running high. Hannah managed ten minutes before subbing herself off, Rebecca fell over, Lou fell over and Dani ran into the goal keeper. However the game remained evenly matched until a Royston player annoyingly broke free and deflected their first goal in.

Slightly disheartened, Tom gave us the boost we needed by calling us all fat at half time (and earning himself LOM status). We roared back on for the second half and Dani quickly secured our counterattack, making it one-one. With restored confidence we pulled together as a team (we even did some ‘wall passes’ - you’re welcome, Jack), earning Hayley, Lou, Lauren, Ani, Jess and Hannah all MOM nominations. But the title was robbed from us all by Lou, who did a pretty good job of bashing the ball into the goal in the last few minutes and ensuring a final score of a two-one win (fair enough).

Fab game girls and incredibly well fought in the second half. Well done!
