We’re All Going On a Hockey Holiday…

Ollie Kenzie

In the same way that it was considered a bad omen to have a woman aboard a vessel of Her Majesty’s Navy, never before has a lady been taken on the arduous voyage north to Skegness accompanying a hockey team…until now.

The invitation extended by one of the players to his girlfriend for a weekend away in the local area duly earned him a Lemon of the Match award. Her presence clearly had proved a bad omen, as South started the game poorly and failed to get a grip of the game. Some excellent saves by Matt St-Gower kept the Cambridge team in sight of their Lincolnshire opponents but before half time South found themselves behind.

The second half started much brighter and for a period of ten minutes, Cambridge South found themselves right back in the game, Will Jones scrambling home after falling further behind in unfortunate circumstances. However, it was too little too late; Alford had already managed a third before Will's consolation.

Alex Pashley, Alex B and Andi Caddy, on debut for the M3s, received Man of the Match votes. Someone also voted for me, meaning they must be ether blind or stupid and accounting perhaps for South’s poor first half performance.

The resounding performance of the day came from the aforementioned Saint-Gower in goal, who made some excellent saves to keep South competitive for so long. Next up, Long Sutton away…maybe another chance for a member of the squad to explore Lincolnshire with their beloved?
