Determined to Win!

Mel Aksoy

The match started with both sides looking as threatening as each other; the first half was uneventful but had some moments of brilliance and strength towards the end. Some great switches around the back were made, allowing us to open the pitch up and relieving stress on the wings. In the last ten minutes of the first half, we had some great opportunities on the goal, unfortunately without success.

Coming back in the second half, Kendra managed to win a penalty flick and proceeded to walk away from it and give it to Izzy, who slipped it into the bottom right corner. Newmarket managed to score a short corner only minutes later, which Kendra (nicest hockey player ever) went to congratulate them for - supporting the wrong team, there. In amongst the tension, Ellie was hit in the head by the ball: we knew it hurt as Ellie actually swore.

Being the fighter that she is, Ellie came back on and in the dying minutes of the match, did a clean sweep to Eimear who ran it up the pitch, tackled a player out of her way and got it into the D, only for Izzy to nutmeg the goalkeeper and win us the match. Throughout the match, Jess W was an incredible support to everyone on the pitch, distributing the ball and making great runs. A mention has to go to Lydia who, thankfully for us, agreed to play for both the 4ths and us!

Oblivious to the fact she was playing with someone else's stick.
