Start of the Season

Kim Cooil

Please excuse the lack of humour, I have some serious back to school Sunday blues (okay, you have got me, some serious Monday morning back to school blues). We assembled early, well most of us (issues with the A1 and errr.. town Georgie?).

The match was always going to be tough- playing a team that has just been promoted out of the the league we have just been promoted into!! Having said this; I think we all enjoyed the step up playing a faster (when the lack of fitness didn't get in the way) game. We lost 2-0, we were 1-0 down at half time. Both goals were well constructed from them, firstly in the instance of losing their marker (me), secondly in a short corner routine where they also lost their marker (again, me). South also made their chances, most of the time losing to the left post. I would like to think we were widening the goal, however, most of the time we were probably just wide of the target. Kendra and Amalia both came close to scoring the first goal of the season, however we didn't quite manage it. We played really well at times, passing well and using the 1, 2s to eliminate defenders. Heather badgered the opposition, while Hazza and Alison hunted them down too. Our defence of Robyn, Roisin, and George and Georgie soaked up the pressure well. Amalia played well on the right, with Katie on the left.

The man of the match votes demonstrated how well numerous people played. There were votes for Roisin who had an absolute outstanding game, for Kim who appeared to run around a bit (so much so she subbed herself off twice... unheard of). There were also votes for Lydia, for her dynamic play on the left hand side of the pitch and Loopy for her fantastic game - I am not sure how thrilled she is that she is now going to have to do a lot in our games!! Man of the match was awarded to George Hurford for getting herself back in the game, literally. (I did think she was going to get herself sent off.)

Lemon votes went to Georgie Howling, for turning up as unprepared for hockey as she possible could be, for George for sleeping in a cot all night and for Roisin for her inevitable sun burn (don't go red Roisin). Lou Cantwell came out as overall lemon due to her new London Loser status.

I am genuinely really proud of our performance, we battled hard and showed exactly why we deserve to be playing in division 2.
