Moral Victory?

Harry Lewis

South came into this game off the back of two defeats on the bounce and looking to secure their first points of the indoor season. They lined up against an infamous City side full of National League experience and looking even more threatening than South’s previous competition.

South started strongly and managed to keep their half court press together and keep City back in their own half. In between the posts, George Toynton was controlling the team. Loud communication from the back helped South keep their structure and composure in defence. A few quick counter attacks gave South small chances to edge a goal and take the lead. Alas this was not the case.

City began to show South who’s boss and managed to expose the midfield gaps. All done by playing some silky passes off the side boards and managing to slip in a couple/few/a lot of goals into South’s goal.

More importantly, the silver lining of the game. Two spectacular goals were scored by South through Oliver Lamming and Owen Harrison.

The first saw Harry Lewis do a mazy run down the right, drawing the goalkeeper off his line and feeding it to Lamming on the P-spot to fire in South’s first goal of the match.

The second saw Jim Hockley dance through Cambridge City’s defence to find Owen Harrison at the top of the D. Owen took his opportunity well and fired it into the bottom corner to secure South’s second goal of the game.

A side note to mention is that Shin did play even though he did not want to go back onto the pitch as he was happy to watch the magic and finesse of South cement themselves as a semi-professional indoor team.

Overall South morally won this game with two great goals and a lot of positives to move on to the next game.

An outstanding performance, despite conceding double figures!

Shin was more happy to watch than actually play. His very tired team mates thanked him for this!
