A Bury Good End to the Friendlies

Matt Saint-Gower

So by the skipper's decision, it now falls to the LOM to write the match report. As my faux pas of directing a clearance towards the umpire's nether regions (again, sorry Tom), I gracefully accept this honour and so my report begins.

We were all showing great confidence from last week's game and with a strong squad of fifteen we went into the game hoping for great things. Somehow it fell to me to lead the warm up; hmm, maybe not a great choice and thankfully Dave Monk and Stu Creed helped out.

Bury started very strong and put pressure on us and had the better of the first half, so much so that their never-give-up attitude helped them to take a one-nil lead.

With wise words had during the half time talk and reshuffling of positions, South started to put more pressure on our opponents and we started to create our chances to score. A break away from Bury and a very well placed pass into our D the saw a Bury striker sneaking to the back post to put his side two-nil up.

Very positively South continued the pressure and the telling moment came when we had a shot saved well by the Bury keeper but the rebound fell to Rob Barton, whose reverse stick shot hit the backboard: two-one.

The game became very open with both the Bury keeper and myself being called into action on more occasions. The game finished two-one to Bury, but some very positive play from South. Well done to Pip for taking MoM and a close run from Peter Creed.

Impressive in midfield in the first half. Even more so in defence after the break. Whatever the job, Pip is your man

“I’m going to boot this one clear, but which direction? Upfield? No. Towards the touchline? No. Straight at the head of the umpire, stood less than two metres away? Perfect!”
