10/10 Team

This week the L2s had a cracker against St Ives. Four goals for, none against. The winning streak continues – a grand total of two games out of two. Solid start. Plan for league glory - on track.

Four different goal scorers – we are so good at sharing, what teamwork!

Zero goals conceded in the league so far. Our steely-eyed defence is a big, beautiful, impenetrable wall, featuring in the wet dreams of small-handed, orange men that live in famous white houses.

The match got off to a solid start. I, myself, went for a nice stroll down the line, admired the view, day dreamed a bit about Rufus Sewell’s dreamy eyes, plotted a bit of world domination and was just generally having a good time. Meanwhile, Izzy E was storming down the other line with the ball. Dancing around, untouchable by anyone in the opposition (and in all honesty I think she must have added in a bit of teleportation too), Izzy beat half the opposition before firing the ball into the D. From there Izzy MP mopped up like a pro and scored goal number one. Off the volley. No hesitation. Bish Bang Bosh. Zero faff. Job done. A MacDonald-Parry special.

Thirty seconds of the game had gone by. We were all feeling pretty good about ourselves. My plans for world domination were put on hold to continue playing the game.

From there South L2s attacked solidly for the remainder of the first half. Fluid hockey, strong passing – and we all looked great while doing it - just saying.

Man of the Match: Grace - valiantly played out of position in defence and had a stormer. Tackling, distribution, hard clearances, and maintaining a solid central presence in the back, this girl had it all. On a week where availability of defenders was short, Aoife, Lauren, Grace and Louisa really stepped up the to the mark (playing out of position for some) and played a strong game, maintaining the L2s’ reputation of having one of the strongest defences in the league.

During this time, myself and the other Lemon nominee, Grace, decided to fall over. Unfortunately, touching St Ives’s sandy pitch seems to have the annoying effect of making one’s skin fall off. Consoling ourselves that having the grazed knees of a five year-old must either make us look extremely youthful (in a good way) or like fierce and bloody warriors, we battled on despite the rapid blood-loss and excruciating pain of our extremely serious (and apparently Lemon-deserving) injuries.

Half time came around.

Score: 1 – 0.

Jelly babies: delicious.

Izzy’s speech: on point.

Hannah’s knowledges of hockey matches and how long they are: lacking.

The goal floodgates opened up again in the last quarter. Storming the D once again, Izzy E decided to keep a goal for herself this time, easing the ball around the St Ives defence and into the goal. This was followed by a goal from debut 2s player, Olivia, who swept the ball solidly into goal from centre of the D. What a great (and hopefully prophetic!) start for your first 2s match – yes, girl! Soon the constant attack on the St Ives D gave Tuffers a chance for a one-on-one with the goalie. Did she hesitate? Of course not. Fired the ball confidently past the goalie’s right foot into the goal, easy. Four-nil to South.

Overall, a great morning and a great start to the new season continues.
