Men's 3rds lose to Wisbech Town 4

The game started strongly, with the midfield of David Bridge, James Bridge, Sam Lansdell and Andy Kennedy dominating the starting game, and leading to the first goal within ten minutes when James Bridge knocked the ball cleanly into the back of the goal. We were up 1-0 for the first time, and the opposition looked shaken.

The feeling was short lived, however, when Wisbech managed to push through the defence of Ian Evans, Andy Passmore, Phil Le Gouais and Matt Bailey to beat keeper Steve Parker (doubling from the firsts game which only finished minutes before this one) and equalise the score: 1-1.

Not to be put off, Cambridge started the attack again, and the forwards Wilco Dijkstra and John Benedikz were placed nicely to allow Johnny B to put Cambridge up again at 2-1.

Unfortunately, Wisbech managed to equalise before half time, leaving it 2-2, but leaving the game well within the reach of either team.

South again started well, with Dave Best brought into midfield, but a skilful Wisbech forward pushed through and passed around the defence (now including Rodney Richardson) and took Wisbech into a lead which we didn't regain. South started to tire at the end and gave away two short corners within the last five minutes, but our defence held on strongly and the final score was 2-3 to Wisbech.

A disappointing result to the best game we've played this season.

For unrelenting skill and style, and putting fear into the opposition within the first ten minutes.
