Men's 2nds beat Long Sutton 3

Long Sutton's late arrival didn't seem to slow them down, although Cambridge South attacked from the off and were unfortunate to concede the first goal from an unstoppable effort following a short corner. Keeper Jon Bartram, playing with his usual authority, kept other efforts out, and generally dominated his area.

The home team came straight back into the game as the rapid Mark Reilly crossed to Finn Johnson, whose shot rebounded off the post only for Tim Waller to pounce gleefully.

At this stage the game was evenly matched, with both sides attacking well. After half time South went ahead from their usual well worked short corner routine as a Stuart Creed thunderbolt just inside the near post gave the goalkeeper no chance. Man of the match Creed and his fellow central midfielder Tim Waller continued to prompt home attacks and make themselves a nuisance to the opposition.

The clinching goal was a result of persistant attacking in numbers, with Reilly and Finn Johnson combining well for Finn to score with a reverse stick shot after Long Sutton failed to clear. Long Sutton did come back near the end and an unmarked forward was able to snatch a goal from close in, but South held out for a fine win.

A good overall performance in a game played in good spirit, with everyone playing their part, in spite of having a significantly reshaped team in all departments. The 2nd team's commitment (i.e. battling ), enthusiasm (i.e. running) and no little skill gained their reward over higher ranked opposition, giving us hope for mid-table respectability.
