Harry Lewis

South's indoor season was back up and running and with new captain Harry at the helm there was high hopes to improve on last seasons shock underdog result of finishing 3rd overall. (Special mention to Nev for captaining the side that managed to hold a 1-0 win against the U18 indoor champions in the final game of last season).

With a fresh new team ready for the first game and no sign of any favouritism towards the M1s the squad was looking strong in depth. To add to all this, as Captain, Harry decided to whip out the trustworthy whiteboard to go through key tactics and game talk. A simple 2-1-2 was in order with a half court press in mind when we didn't have the ball. Simple and effective... it might actually work.

Once the game started South were quickly reminded the rules of indoor hockey and how difficult it can be. A quick brace of Saffron Walden gave them a 2 goal lead before South had even stringed a few passes together... A slow start to say the least. Once South found their feet though the tied turn and to great goals from Owen (his first and probably only goal of the season) & Tom kept the score level into half time.

With the second half under way, South's defensive unit was looking strong. JJ and Mikey were finding their passing mojo, and Alex was keeping cool and collective at the back. New indoor super star Tom was keen to make an impact on the game charging down the defence at any given moment eager to not let them have a moment more on the ball. South were looking strong however Saffron Walden were to and 2 quick goals again gave them a 2 goal lead.

Step up 'Mr Reliable' Oli Lamming, to help set and score a goal to climb South back to 4-4. The team was looking strong however New boy Henry got the first injury of the season with a poorly finger which rattled South to concede 2 more goals before the end. Maybe one of the could of been saved if George didn't step over the ball and allow them to walk it in.

Overall it was a good start from South with a lot to work on in the upcoming fixtures, lets just wait and see how they get on next week...

Great to see a familiar face with nice composure at the back

His inner rugby player came out for a lot of 'heavy tackles'
