I'm a Unicorn

Katie Gibson

An early meet time for the girls saw them back into the swing of league hockey. Katie Gibson however was too keen, arriving only sixty mins early, getting the time wrong for hockey but juusssst right to have her chocolate croissant in the sun.

It was a tale of two halves. Or rather, two games. The first was South versus Saffron Walden, a strong side who played with pace. The South girls played really well with lots of attacking opportunities, and particularly impressive play from forward Laura and newcomer Sarah Haddow, putting the opposition under pressure from the start. South dominated for a good part of the game but just didn’t quite managed to convert to numbers on the scoreboard. Saffron Walden however did just that with a flurry of four quick goals in the second half. Never worry this only serves to push south forward into the new season motivated to start with pace and work on fitness.

The day ended in a loss for south but was a strong display of what the season has to hold. South are by no means an easy opposition after watching them compete with two of the strongest teams that they’re likely to face. So East League, watch this space!

Executive summary: we lost if you’re counting goals but won if you’re counting fun. For interested parties, Katie got the piece of table out of her leg with only minor surgery.
