Men's 2nds beat Cambridge City 5

A tough game against newly promoted local rivals, Cambridge City, was won by a close range effort from Samin Ishtiaq following a short corner midway through the first half. This came during a period of sustained pressure by the away team.

Thereafter, City had much of the play but the excellent defence of Andy Bleach, Jan Brynjolffssen, Steve Lane and Chris Clegg stood firm and made a number of last-ditch goalmouth stops.

South did enjoy some good open attacking moves using the width of a three man forward line, but too often the final ball was cut out. Late on, keeper Jon Bartram suffered a twisted ankle, but he bravely continued and assisted us in holding out for the first league win of the season.
