Men's 1sts lose to March Town 2

Cambridge South Men's 1sts, sponsored by PwC, slipped to their first defeat of the season in this top of the table clash with March Town 2nds.

The first half was tight as both sides showed why they're at the top of the division, but after creating the better chances South were unlucky to reach the interval without scoring.

At 0-0 it looked like a single goal would win the match and soon after the second half began March broke the deadlock with a well taken goal from the top of the D.

This prompted some sustained pressure from the home side with Chris Baker instrumental in the middle of the park. It didn't take long for a Jim Thorpe free hit to be steered into the net by Rob Garrett, via the foot of a March defender.

The final third of the game settled into a rhythm of South pressure and March counter-attacking at pace as both sides searched for the winning goal. And just as it seemed that it would finish in a draw, March nicked a winner.

An undeserved loss for South, but an excellent game for the neutral and plenty of time to regroup for the next match after Christmas. South are still top of the division, but now only leading March by goal difference.
