Men's 2nds beat Cambridge Nomads 4

Cambridge South got straight into the game from the start with a typical Rob Barton reverse stick effort following a well disguised Andy Lewis through ball. Unfortunately Nomads equalised shortly thereafter with a well worked short corner routine.

The game was dominated by the severe weather, and a well flooded pitch, making long passes impossible. Both teams battled on, with the home defence heroic under the command of returning keeper Jon Bartram. Ron Oren and Andy Bleach in particular made numerous decisive clearances, but all played well.

The revised midfield / forward formation appeared to be working, aided by the presence of the fizzing James Pope and Russell Johnson. The latter got a deserved "assist" as a Greaves-bound cross after a mazy dribble to the by-line was deflected by an unlucky defender into his own net. Russell got onto the score sheet himself with a great solo effort to wrap up the points. The home side had many good moves with neat forward interplay, and the pressure resulted in a good few short corners. Although all provided shots, none were converted. Indeed all the forwards had some goal chances, either saved, or narrowly missing.

This was the type of game that South have to win to get out of the relegation zone. Today they were well up for it, playing with confidence, passing more - early, and winning the 50/50 balls.

There is hope.
