Men's 2nds lose to Cambridge City 5

Things looked ominous as the Camb City team were spotted doing some serious training at least forty minutes before kick off. In spite of this, the substantially reshaped home team took the lead through the old Greaves/Lewis short corner routine, with Andy Lewis's first time shot unstoppable. Sadly Camb City equalised, only for Samin Ishtiaq to latch onto a pinpoint Suk Pannu through ball, which he steered expertly past the diving keeper to restore the lead.

Then City got three goals.

Rob Barton showed that his heroics the previous week were not forgotten as he struck a trademark reverse-stick effort firmly after manoeuvring skilfully to give himself room to shoot.

3-4 at half time was a fair reflection of the game as good attacking play dominated, with South using the wings well, and putting together good forward moves.

Camb City scored four more in the second half as their young, fit, fast, skilful forwards ran amok, and in spite of best efforts, South were unable to respond. There were chances, and some good moves prompted particularly by right wing John Greaves with numerous crosses and cross field passes, the tireless midfield battler Suk Pannu, and man of the match Andy Lewis on the left.

City deserved their victory as they march up the table, but the unflattering score line didn't do justice to the efforts of an unfamiliar South team.
