Men's 2nds draw with St Ives 4

St Ives's excellent new astro witnessed a good close game, with the home team considerably strengthened since earlier in the season. After the early exchanges, St Ives went ahead with a sharp shot off a short corner. Andy Lewis was unlucky not to equalise as the old Greaves/Lewis short corner routine resulted in his shot hitting the net just above the backboard.

Soon after half time South did equalise as Andy Lewis wriggled through to the by-line to pull the ball back to John Greaves who "kindly" laid the ball off to Samin Ishtiaq to make space to score.

St Ives spent most of the remainder of the game in the South half and stout defence, marshalled by Matt Bailey in the centre, kept them out, helped considerably by goalkeeper Lino Di Lorenzo's heroics, diving at the feet of St Ives's forwards time after time. Lino even played on after a painful knock on the knee which necessitated considerable quanitities of magic spray.

South did have attacks, and indeed moved the ball around well up front, with the forwards combining well, but the pace and composure of the St Ives midfield enabled them to exert more control.

A hard earned away point, with South battling away to the end as always, although more fluency and team play will be needed to compete with higher placed teams.
