Men's 3rds beat Ely City 4

Cambridge South 3rds, sponsored by PwC, dominated from the start against an Ely side playing as a team but unable to match the overall skills and energy of the home side. It took a while for the pressure to count, as eventually Steve Fleck shot through a melee to take the lead. Soon after this Tom Rosselli, playing well at right wing, and providing good width for attacking moves, ghosted up to the far post to strike sweetly in to goal.

After half time CSouth camped in the opposition 22 for long periods, and had a goal disallowed before man of the match Paul South shot through a massed defence, benefiting from a deflection to make it 3 - 0. South, alongside midfield general Suk Pannu, were by now controlling the game, assisted by the excellent defence of WychBaileyBowmanMassey, who frequently snuffed out opposition moves and turned them rapidly into CSouth attacks.

The fourth goal came from the old Greaves-Lewis short corner routine, with Andy Lewis's sweet first time shot proving unstoppable. Skipper john Greaves grabbed the final goal from another short corner, with Steve Fleck expertly slipping Suk Pannu's corner to him giving time to pick his spot just inside the post.

A satisfying win against an old enemy, which showed that when we play to our strengths, CSouth 3rds can do well in this league, and hopefully push for promotion.
