Men's 4ths draw with St Ives 5

St. Ives turned up with their usual young 5th team, this one is also skilful and quick. St. Ives had the better of the opening exchanges, but Cambridge South 4ths, sponsored by PwC, eventually settled down and created chances of their own through the skill and persistence of James Pope, Matt Murray and Seb Robins.

South however went 0-1 behind as St. Ives just shaded it in terms of possession. South went into half time having drawn level through a Matt strike. South also had a disallowed effort from a James short corner, but both sides seemed contented with 1-1 at half time.

A good half time team talk resulted in a slight change of tactics the second half for South where Shahzad Ali was sent further up field to disrupt the St. Ives well organised defence by “going deep and dragging wide”. This resulted in South looking more likely to score in the second half. St. Ives were a good side and they edged in front 1-2 through a short corner. Moments later Shahzad managed to put the ball in the St. Ives net through a quickly taken free hit by James Pope from the half way line, South's tactical change worked a treat, but alas the goal was frustratingly disallowed.

South eventually claimed an equaliser through Seb, but it took the umpires quite sometime before the goal was actually awarded. A hat trick of disallowed goals would have been hard to take. Both team continued to search for winner but the defences held out.

In summary, it was a combative match, full of incidents, a draw was a fair result.
