Men's 1sts beat City of Peterborough 4

Cambridge South, sponsored by PwC, recorded their best win of the campaign so far, away at Peterborough 4ths, and thereby moved into the top half of the NE14Hockey.com Division 3NW table. Peterborough's parsimonious defence had only conceded three goals in their five games prior to South's visit, so the four strikes the visitors managed was a fine achievement.

Yet again South were led from the back, as sweeper Chris Graveling plundered another two goals from short corner routines, helping South to a 2-0 halftime lead. These strikes mean Graveling remains as an unlikely leading scorer for his side, with 8 league goals so far, all of them scored via South's sweetly functioning set pieces.

Peterborough struck back shortly after the break, but South dug deep to re-establish their two-goal lead through striker Mark Taylor, who, having had a goal ruled out in the first half, finally managed to break his duck since joining the club in the summer. As Peterborough pressed forward late on to try and pull another goal back, South caught them cold with a classic counter attack, finished again by Taylor.

South skipper Chris Baker's post match comment was, "It was good to get back to winning ways, especially against strong opposition such as Peterborough are. I consider winning 4-1 here as a good result."
