Men's 1sts spank Bourne 2

Cambridge South, proudly sponsored by PwC, annihilated Bourne Seconds and gained revenge for the defeat in the opening game of the season. Bourne won that game 3-1 but there was never any likelihood that the score would be repeated here as the home side started with such speed and directness that it was 5-0 within 12 minutes.

It should be noted that the Bourne side here was depleted of some of its regular players, but nonetheless South displayed a cutting edge and ruthlessness that would have cut through the best defences in this league. Bourne pulled 2 goals back, but here the fight back ended as South scored twice more before the half time interval.

There was a slight lull in the second half as the home side paused to catch their breath, before a late surge saw 4 more goals scored before the final whistle was blown, whilst Bourne managed to get another back to make it 11-3 at the end. Mark Taylor scored another hat-trick, Chris Baker added 2 to his tally, Chris Graveling scored a brace (including one from a flick), Chris Massey slotted home two late goals and Russell Johnson and Robert Garrett also added their names to the score sheet with a goal apiece.

An excellent display all round, South go into next week's game away to Long Sutton with their confidence high. Captain Chris Baker said "I'm happy we started the second phase of the season with such a convincing victory, although our opponents were apparently weakened by injuries. Nevertheless at times we played extremely well, converted lots of our chances on goal, and won comfortably."
