Men's 4ths beat St Ives 5

CSHC 4ths 1 – 0.95 St Ives 5ths

Cambridge South 4ths, sponsored by PwC, travelled to St Ives looking to get back to winning ways after a couple of disappointing weeks.

Having satisfied the 4th team tradition of introducing the team to each other battle was joined against a spirited opposition. The first half was a tightly contested affair with St Ives having slightly more pressure but neither side able to fashion much in the way for clear chances.

The second half started in similar fashion but South were finally able to get the break through when a short corner ball came back out to Stu Creed on the edge of the circle, his shot was stopped (rather painfully) by the foot of a St Ives defender on the goal line but James Raikes was able to knock the rebound in negating the need for a flick.

The rest of the game continued to be tight with St Ives gradually getting more and more pressure but unable to convert thanks to some scrabbling defence and good keeping. South held up until the last few seconds when they were fortunate to be rescued by a whistle for short corner that blew milliseconds before St Ives managed to get a shot away that roll in. South didn't waste this life line and managed to clear the final short as time expired to hold on for a welcome first win of the new year.
