Men's 3rds beat Horncastle 2

Cambridge South 3rds, sponsored by PwC, were on top for the first half and scored early on as a cross from the ever dangerous Andy Lewis was touched on by Rupert Espley to skipper John Greaves who guided it into goal. Soon afterwards Lewis grabbed one himself with characteristic persistence in the goalmouth eventually enabling him to force the ball over the line past various bodies and flailing sticks. Greaves got his brace from another Lewis pass which was only partially cut out by the defence, and it fell to Greaves 6 yds out to deceive the keeper before sliding the ball calmly into an empty net.

In the second half Horncastle threw caution to the wind and got 2 goals back due to some sloppy marking and lack of numbers tracking back for defensive duties. Nevertheless CSouth held on, partly due to the heroics of goalkeeper Jon Price, who dived repeatedly at the feet of attackers and made one glorious save tipping the ball onto the post.

A game of two halves followed by some excellent Cornish pasties in the Horncastle clubhouse. The promotion push is maintained as CSouth lead 6NW by 6 clear points.
