Men's 4ths beat City of Peterborough 8

I had in mind to describe all the missed chances, but decided that would simply be too lengthy a report and most readers would fall asleep, so instead I shall describe how Cambridge South 4ths, sponsored by PwC, actually scored the goals.

CSHC had already beaten Peterborough 8th 4-0 in the away fixture earlier this season and started the match with plenty of confidence and possession. Despite creating numerous chances in the first 15 minutes, none of the opportunities were particularly clear cut. The pattern of the game developed into CSHC gets the ball down the right, gets it across the goal, it gets cleared or we missed. 20 minutes into the game James Raikes finally put South ahead after some simple passing down the right; a change from the formula of trying to dribble past all the defenders.

The 2nd goal did not come until deep into the second half after a series of long corners and side hits from the right hand side. The goal came from the Stuart Creed-Leo Tomita combination where after half a dozen attempts of trying to dribble past the defenders, the pair opted for the hit-through-the-ring-and-knock-it-in approach, Stuart getting the decisive touch.

The remaining goals also came when South started playing basic hockey. The 3rd was scored by the ever-improving Alex Scally, who found himself in a good position to tap in as the Peterborough defence began to tire. The 4th was scored by Steve Fleck from a short corner rebound, when South finally spotted that there was no one going in at the keeper at our short corners. The 5th was perhaps the most spectacular as Simon Ta made a diagonal run with the ball and crossed it back for Alex to sweep into the roof of the net for his second.
