Men's 1sts thrash Cambridge Nomads 3

Cambridge South, proudly sponsored by PwC, strolled to victory over a pedestrian Nomads Thirds side. The home side have just 9 points this season, and the worst defensive record in the league, so on paper at least this had 'away win' written all over it. And so it proved to be.

With a number of changes forced upon the side, Cambridge South started slowly but it didn't take long to register the first goal of the game when Mark Taylor scrambled the ball over the line from close range after 10 minutes. Nomads had no attack of note in the first half, whilst South scored twice, missed a penalty flick and hit the post on one other occasion.

And they were quickly up and running in the second half, with the post struck twice more within 5 minutes of the restart. In the end they registered 5 more goals before the final whistle blew, and could have had more. Nomads managed to force a couple of short-corners in this time but never looked like breaching a disciplined and organised South defence.

Goals today came from the Captain Chris Baker (3), Mark Taylor (3) and one for Lukas Snetler. The pick of the bunch being Chris Baker's well-struck shot from the top of the D that flew into the far corner of the goal. He later stated that "We were back to winning ways on saturday with a clinical performance against a weak Nomads team . It was 7-0 but could have been double figures if not for an uncanny problem of hitting the post at least 4 times!"

Team played: Steve Parker; Nick Young, Leo Tomita, John Benedikz, Rupert Webb, Chris Baker (c), Rob Garrett, Eliot Read, Lukas Snetler, Tristen Knight, Mark Taylor, Gareth Hebbron

N.B. - There is also (a somewhat fuzzy) video of some of this game online . Goals seen are Mark making it 3-0, Chris finishing a short for 4-0 and Chris shotting into the far corner for 5-0.
