A ‘Herty’ Breakfast

Will Townley

When Sam messaged this morning to have a 'big breakfast', which Stu correctly ammended to a 'Herty' breakfast, it made me wonder. What does the team consume pre-game?

Matt: Porridge
The youngest in the team and a full time student, I reckon Matt's gone for something quick and easy. Finished off with some nutella or peanut butter.

Tom: Omlette
I have a suspicion that Tom is a good chef. Therefore, I can see him having something that requires some culinary expertise. Finely chopped onion, cheese and ham and potentially something with a bit more flair to finish off, maybe a few drops of hot sauce.

Scott: ADB
Seeing the look Scott gave Connor's sandwich post game, I reckon he's an all-day breakfast sandwich conosseur. A solid choice that can be enjoyed any time of the day.

Oscar: 2x eggs on toast and a lot of coffee.
Oscar offers an impressive eggs on toast and a lot of coffee after a big night out. You wouldn't have guessed from his performance but it did attract some lemon votes.

Connor: 4x apricot müller corners.
Who knew the optimal brekkie would be a bunch of müller corners. A questionable flavour but fuelled Connor through a MOTM performance. Connor also celebrated the win by polishing off his 5th müller of the day.

Nik: fat free greek yogurt, fruit, agave syrup and acai berries
Nik's body is a temple, take off your shoes we're going in. This is an athlete's breakfast and it pays dividens, could Nik have picked that ball without a harty breakfast? That is the question.

Will: Bacon buttie
An easy classic, bacon cooked to perfection with lashings of tommy K.

Sam: bag of crisps and coffee
Knowing Sam, I imagine the message in the group today was as much a reminder for himself as it was for the team. The question is more what Sam had last night. Something very unsettling by the sounds of things, resulting in many lemon votes.

Chalky: 3x weetabix + banana
A breakfast to power the engine room. So much energy was rewarded with a goal today. Solid breakfast to fit a solid performance.

Ed: Spicy chicken and tomato pasta + builders tea
Have you seen Ed strike a ball from top D off a short. There is some spice behind that hit, and its got to come from his pre-match meal.

Humby: Overnight (oat milk) oats
As tempting as it was to say our resident vegan lives off a diet of grass. Hungry Humby has informed me it was oats this morning. It's a lot of oats but we all know how hungry he is.

Tim: 10x bananas
Tim devours bananas, its what keeps him going and it did the trick today. All that potassium providing enough firepower to score the winning goal.

Pearson: Corn pancakes
Pearson is a resourceful man, so I'm guessing he went for corn pancakes for brekkie. Enough energy to get him though the day but something you can grow yourself.

Harry: Croissant
Harry strikes me as a croissant man, many layers to his game, going down the wing or through the middle he will make an impact.

Schumann: Pesto pasta
Schoey knows his stuff when it comes to pre-match scran. The distain he showed Sam, who was eating chicken before a match once shows Shoey knows how to look after himself. I'm thinking pesto pasta, utilising slow release carbs (no protein though). If he turns up with a red bull though, we know he's been out the night before.

Match:
A hot day and a tricky slow pitch to play on. South started well and were rewarded for some early pressure when Pearson pushed it into a defenders foot on the goal line after a short. Humby dispatched the P flick, in off the post. The match settled down with South on top for the rest of the half. Hertford pressed high after the break and when they won a 'questionable' short scored with a well worked routine. South responded well when Chalky launched it towards goal from top D, the ball bounced up and over the keeper to make it 2-1 (for a more detailed report on Chalkys goal he will be more than happy to talk you through it for the next few months). South then made it 3-1 after good play from Scott, to Ed who slapped it into Tim who gracefully dinked it over the keeper. With 2 minutes to go, Hertford scored from another short but it proved to be too little too late. 3-2 to South in our last match before the season gets underway.

Longest pre-match poo. Didn’t announce the team until we walked on to the pitch for the match
