Men's 3rds v : Awaiting Result

A great opener for the new season to help prepare the Men's 3rds for Div 5NW. Bury were skillful, and positive, but no match for a (fairly) fit, keen, and "up for it" Cambridge South.

A well organised defence enabled the midfield and front line to stretch the play with some good moves. Wilco scored the first with his first touch of the game, when a short corner went out to Ian Evans, who played it back in to the D for the lurking Wilco to sweep it in to the net. This swiftly became two as Stu Creed, at the heart of many attacks, spotted Andy Lewis and Creed's free hit found the deadly Lewis who unleashed a typical thunderbolt. 2 - 0

Paul South scored the first of his three in a man of the match performance, with a deft push following Creed's dribble to the by-line and pass back to the ideal top D area.

Bury got one back after one of their short corners wasnt cleared and goalkeeper Shahbaz Ali was unsighted in the melee, but Rob Barton pounced for the first of his three as John Greaves's effort came back from the keeper to him one yard out.

The forwards and midfield were linking well, with South and Lewis using the width of the pitch.

After half time Bury had more of the ball as Cambridge South hung back, but had little penetration as the home defence remained solid in the D. Barton got the fifth as his shot was met by an opposition arm, leading to the inevitable, but carefully placed penalty flick. The sixth was from a simple Greaves-to-Creed-to-South short corner routine; the seventh a neat interchange between Greaves and Barton giving the latter his hatrick, only for Paul South to finish things off with his own hatrick just before the end with a flick into the top of the net.

Simon Ta guested for the opposition and played brilliantly, thus earning their gratitude, but failed to score, earning ours.
