Men's 3rds v : Awaiting Result

A game of swinging fortunes played at a decent pace given the warm conditions. Cambridge South's competitive spirit and improved team play saw them to victory over a skilful and coordinated Bishop's Stortford team.

The first half honours were even with a Stuart Creed special cancelled out by the demon Stortford number 9. 1 - 1. There was one faller as Jake Lewis's ankle got in the way of a fast moving hockey ball shortly after it left an opposition stick. The ball won.

The same number 9 grabbed two early second half goals with solo efforts which came from a superior level of hockey with which we are not familiar. The South response was a Greaves brace, one from a rebound off the keeper after a Creed effort, and the other after the excellent Rupert Espley wriggled down the right wing and crossed expertly to the back of the D for the skipper to control and smash into the net from an angle. Stu Creed got his second shortly after with a rasper from long range to take the lead. The skipper also rattled the backboard on two other occasions but the whistle intervened. By this time South were on top and using the space well, making the ball do the work, and attacking from different angles. Andy Lewis rounded off the scoring with another scorcher from the top of the D.

Everyone played their part in a good game, with an effective and calm defence, increasingly confident midfield, and lively attack (well at least the Ta half was lively).
