Men's 4ths v : Awaiting Result

South started the match brightly with the tireless Simon Jelley and James Hodge controlling the midfield by being both more agile and nimbler than their counterparts. They were ably supported by Ian Glover pushing further up from the back. Up front Shyam, playing only his fifth game for the team, was beginning to show some neat touches.

For twenty minutes, South dominated and only occasionally had to defend. Ely then released their secret weapon by bringing on to the right wing a player who looked no more than ten years old (he was probably older than ten). At first everyone was slightly worried they may hurt him as he was so tiny, but it soon emerged that he was very skilful. This lead to Ely beginning to win a number of short corners and they managed to work the "slip it to the guy on the left" routine and the player managed to score high off the keeper's pads.

With their confidence high, Ely managed a second before half time. South were equal to Ely in terms of possession and had a number of chances, but finishing was not South's strength on the day. Between the two goals, Phil Le Gouais managed to save brilliantly off Ky Ho who was trying to clear a ball out of the defence but was facing the wrong way at the time.

In the second half, South continued to attack in a similar manner to the first, but it was the familiar story of possession but lacking the finish. Ely managed to break and their striker got a goal from an unexpected shot. It was a good team effort despite the loss.
