Ladies' 1sts beat Sawtry 1

Cambridge South Ladies continued their strong recent form with another win on Saturday, taking them up to third place in the league. However, once again South did not begin well, with a few players appearing rusty having not played for a few weeks. Passes went regularly astray as the play ranged from end to end and several times Sawtry's attacks were only denied by some excellent saves from goalkeeper Cassie Ragnauth. Meanwhile, for South, Kate Nustedt up front was playing with her usual enthusiasm and skill and was unlucky not to score on more than one occasion. Shortly before half time the deadlock was finally broken with a breakaway goal from Sawtry which caught most of the South players unawares.

Both teams made a couple of changes at half time and while South came out with renewed determination, Sawtry seemed to have got the tactics wrong by reshuffling their defence. By this time South were playing much more accurately and centre half Holly Joyce put a great through ball into the D for Kate Nustedt to level the score. Shortly afterwards a break down the right by South was followed by a cross from Kate Nustedt again that beat the goalkeeper and found newcomer Sharon McKay following up to score her first goal for the club.

A well worked short corner saw Emma Clarke net from the rebound and with the score now at 3-1 it was all over. Sawtry had very few attacks in the second half, all expertly dealt with by the defence, with Sue Snape and Caroline Bucknall proving very strong at the back and woman of the match Cassie Ragnauth showing how much she is enjoying her new role as goalkeeper.
