Ladies' 1sts lose to Bourne 2

Cambridge South Ladies suffered their first loss since the opening league match of the season on Saturday, going down by two goals to a strong Bourne side.

The match was played in pouring rain throughout but this did not detract from a good spectacle, although the crowd watching was understandably depleted. Cambridge had several attacks in the first half but were unable to convert any of them and were a goal down at half time thanks to a well struck shot following a break by Bourne.

At half time South were reduced to ten men and had not really reorganized themselves sufficiently in time to prevent a goal right at the start of the second half. A cross from the right was tapped home by Bourne and from then on they were always going to win as South found it hard to come back from two goals and a man down. However some strong defending ensured that the score remained at just two. Cassie Ragnauth in goal again produced some fine saves, including a tip over the bar worthy of a premiership goalie. Katie Thornburrow put in some excellent work at centre back and received a nasty bang on the knee from a short corner for her efforts.

All in all, it was disappointing to lose but the team was not too disheartened as they felt they had put in an improved performance from their draw at St Ives the week before.
