Ladies' 1sts lose to Huntingdon 1

Cambridge South began the second half of their season with a tough game against league leaders Huntingdon. South were determined to put up a better performance than the 14-1 loss back in September, where a number of the regular players were unavailable.

The game started with Huntingdon in typically strong attacking form. The South defence held on well until a misunderstanding at the back allowed Huntingdon to score from a weak shot. Shortly afterwards however, South were level. Centre forward Kate Nustedt made a decisive break and a well-timed pass allowed Emma Clarke to beat the oncoming goalkeeper. Sustained Huntingdon pressure saw them regain the lead but once again South pulled the score back, this time from a short corner, put in at close range by Emma Clarke for her second.

With the scores level at half time, South came out for the second half with renewed determination and for the first ten minutes they were definitely the better side. Huntingdon began to make errors and South could have gone ahead a couple times but were unlucky with shots going just wide. Huntingdon regrouped and as South began to tire they finally managed to score from a cross. Two more Huntingdon goals followed from set pieces in the last five minutes to make the final score 5-2.

However, South felt that they had played well and despite the loss were pleased with the performance, which was vastly improved from the last match against this side. Having raised their game for this match, the aim will be to maintain the same level of play for the rest of the season against lesser opposition.
