Ladies' 1sts beat Wisbech Town 2

After a narrow defeat in their first league match, South were looking to record their first win of the season against Wisbech. Matches between the two sides have always been hard fought, with Wisbech usually coming out on top, and it was about time for South to turn this recent run around.

South started this game brightly and soon had chances. Natasha Cox and Rosie Dias up front were combining very well, ably supported by Jenny Fleck in the unfamiliar role of Centre Half. Their efforts were soon rewarded when Rosie crossed into the D for Natasha to put South 1-0 up. Not long afterwards it was Rosie's turn to get onto the score sheet, this time Natasha was the provider and Rosie's shot easily beat the Wisbech keeper.

After this great start, South had several more good attacks but were unable to score another. Instead it was Wisbech who pulled one back just before half time.

The second half saw South defending well in order to keep their lead. Elena de Angelis, Ruth Jempson, Jodee Davis and Claire Roberts were all extremely solid at the back and only rarely did Wisbech look like scoring. One of these times was right at the end from a short corner and only an excellent save from volunteer keeper Caroline Bucknall kept South's lead. Up front South had a few chances to score but were unable to convert any of them. However the whole team was delighted to record their first league win, especially over a team that has proved difficult to beat in the past.
