Ladies' 1sts lose to Newmarket 1

This Saturday Cambridge South headed to Bury St Edmunds to play Newmarket. In the first fifteen minutes of play South had all the possession and shots on goal. Newmarket had a strong midfield and did have a few attacks on the right side, leading to several penalty corners, but nothing came of them.

Minutes later South were on the break. With Gemma Thomas bringing the ball from midfield into the shooting area, she hammered the ball to the far post where Jo Read was waiting to tuck it in the goal. South's lead didn’t last long however. Towards the end of the first half Newmarket broke down the right side and managed to score minutes before half time.

The second half started just as the first, with South pushing for their next goal. Rosie Dias and Sarah worked well on the right and were unlucky not to score. Unfortunately for South, who were all playing great, Newmarket managed to score on the break.

This didn't deter South and Tash Cox came very close several times whilst trying to lift the ball over the goalkeeper. It was unlucky South didn’t score again with great defending from Becca L and some accurate passing from Gemma, who worked well with Tash (who never stopped running!) to create many chances.

Rachel and Jodee made many great tackles in defence to prevent any more goals from Newmarket. Sue kindly volunteered to go in goal for South and did some important saves in the second half. South were unlucky not to come away with a victory as all the team worked so hard and really deserved a better result.
