Ladies' 1sts lose to Newmarket 1

An 8.45 meet time meant everyone was wide-awake for our first away trip to face Newmarket at their new pitch.

Despite going in 1-0 down at half time South had shown some promising moments, but had just lacked that killing instinct in front of goal. So at half time the team was shuffled around in an attempt to confuse the opposition. Jo moved to left wing and Liles pushed up to right wing, Liz swapped to play on the left while Julie moved up to left half and Jodee dropped back. This daring change of tactics resulted in South drawing level with a free hit from the right being turned towards goal by Tash and Jo ultimately putting the ball in the net.

Louise and Jenny had storming games at right back and Sally and Becca prevented their forwards from having many forays into our D. However Newmarket took the lead again, and then in the dying minutes they scored again after play was waved on when Sally was hit above the knee in the build up to the goal.

Despite the score South began to gel well during the second half, which is promising as the real stuff starts next Saturday.
