Ladies' 1sts beat St Ives 3

It was a day to celebrate as Cambridge South, sponsored by PwC, kept their first clean sheet of the season thanks to a great team effort that left Loopy frozen in her goal.

St Ives allowed South to play their free flowing passing game giving them lots of time and space on the ball, due to South's drive to be first at every ball. The first goal came midway through the first half when South were awarded a short corner, from which the ball was driven across the goal and directed home by Liles on the left post.

There followed a period when the ball barely left the St Ives half of the pitch (and shouts of "don't let the ball out of the 25" by Lady Tottington). Some cracking balls were played in from the right that narrowly missed the end of Tash's outstretched stick several times. But you can't deny a top goal scorer for long and when Gemma drove into the D Tash was there to knock the ball home.

An upbeat South were determined to continue their all out attack in the second half and were rewarded with two more goals. The first came from a long ball in from the right which Louise knocked home from the left post (the half time advice of "when we're attacking run to the left post" obviously worked) and the fourth goal came from a first time short corner strike by Gemma.

South were able to put into practice much of what they had been aiming to do all season. Some great passing between Becca, Bek, Jodee and Julie around the back (as well as some strong tackling to keep St Ives out of the South D), and some accurate passes from the midfield of Sarah, Gemma and Jo R to the forwards Tash, Liles, Jo C and Louise.
