Ladies' 2nds lose to local rivals Cambridge Ladies 2

Saturday saw a frustrating 2-1 loss for Cambridge South 2nds against Cambridge Ladies 2nds. South got off to a slow start with an early goal from Ladies...maybe as a result of a not very thorough warm up! New additions to the 2nds meant we had little practice of playing together. The “new Dutch girls” – Anne and Maud, were dominant throughout with strong hits and relentless support...as well as causing the odd injury to the opposition! Along with Ellie and Cat there were numerous solid passes into the D but frustratingly finishing proved difficult, with some unlucky misses from Bex and Mel up front. Katie, Leila and Anne-Isabelle worked well in defence managing to stop some great attacks from Ladies. Lou needed to make some good saves to keep the final score as 2-1.

The score was 1-0 at half time and following a motivating pep talk from Captain Vicky South came back stronger in the 2nd half making much better use of the width of the pitch. However, more practice is still needed to play the ball out wide. There were some frustrating short corners with goals being narrowly missed but South did finally score in the 2nd half when Cat finished off a goal. The beginning of the 2nd half also saw a painful injury for Suzanne – breaking her thumb when defending a short corner...we hope you’re ok! A few “interesting” decisions were noted by the Umpire...one of which then put Ladies in the lead 2-1.

There is definite potential for us to perform well as a team once we have more practice playing together – we just need to sharpen up on our communication, use of the pitch and more importantly score more goals!!!
