Ladies' 1sts lose to Cambridge City 3

The league resumed on saturday with Cambridge South Ladies, sponsored by PwC, having high hopes of continuing our streak of good results. However it was not to be as the lack of a South subs took its toll, allowing Cambridge City to fight back in the second half. South began strongly with Hayley seeing a lot of D action only to be thwarted by the City keeper. City struggled to contain the South attack and eventually the break through came when a cross from Hayley was met by Emma at the far post. Much of the same in the first half, however South could not convert penalty corners and so the score remained 1-0 at half time.

We figured City would come out stronger, having regrouped and indeed all of a sudden they appeared to have a lot more belief. They converted their penalty corners which turned out to be the difference between the sides. South unable to distribute the ball effectively out of defence as we went down to 10 ladies. Tired legs (except Ellie H's, who tackled and tackled and brought the ball out of defence brilliantly on a number of occasions) could not muster the ideas and energy required to fight back and so City converted 3 penalty corners in the end and took the win. South should be back to full strength and health next week and will be looking forward to the rest of the season.
