Men's 3rds defy the weather to beat Peterborough

A glorious day for hockey, and a pretty good game as CSouth remembered the basics of hockey after the extended gap after the previous match. THis victory over a workmanlike and somewhat fractious Peterborough side sees us unbeaten in 3 weeks. (OK so 2 of those were postponements)

The match was won by two goals scored mid way through the first half..the first following a good move with Paul South pulling the ball back from the by-line for Dom Nelson to sweep it in past a bemused keeper. The second followed soon after, with Stu Creed surprising the keeper with his effort straight from a straightforward short corner.

Peterborough came back with a good goal just beforte half time, but thereafter were kept at bay by the authoratitive John Benedikz and his fellow defender YardleyEvansHo. Richard Yardley playing for the first time for the 3rds, gave a man of the match performance at right back, blending skilled defence with a desire to attack whenever possible and safe to do so. His fellow new-boy Richard, Marley, also fitted in well in the centre of midfield, being a constant busy body to the Peterboro players, and starting attacks with his simple passes to men in green shirts.

CSouth were unable to add to the score after the break, although Jake Davis came closest a couple of times after ghosting into great positions. More goals would not have been an injustice with CSouth putting together many fine attacking moves, passing early and supporting one another. Everyone played their part in a performance against a mid table side that provides encouragement for the rest of the season as we seek to climb away from the relegation zone.

Didn't put a foot wrong at right back. Great defending, and always looking to turn defence into attack.
