A view from the back of the first league win

Joe Lynch

Being 90 meters down a hockey pitch I’m not exactly sure what happens all of the time, but I’ll give it my best shot. We had a slow start to the game as we kept getting pushed back in to our defensive half. This ended up with a goal for the opposition, despite me, thinking the ball was outside the D. They ended up getting another goal, but Shabhaz came right back, scoring our first goal. The first half ended 2-1 to Ely.

In the second half we were a lot stronger side, we had more possession of the ball and all round making better attacks. This led to us getting an early goal by John. After that I unfortunately let in a goal which was nearly saved by Nick's heroic dive which got him a green card for hurting himself. Then Shabhaz came through and tied the game for 3 all. With 2 minutes to go Shahbaz scored the winning goal and his hat-trick. The next 2 minutes felt like the longest 2 minutes in a while. Thankfully they didn’t get another goal bringing the final score to a 3-4 win for us.

Well done to Shahbaz for his hatrick and man of the match and, not so well done to Andy for calling Ely Cambridge city and getting lemon because of it.
