M2 1-1 St Ives Mens 2

Ed Creedy

After a solid 1-0 away win last week, South returned to Long Road to face St Ives, keen to continue picking up points and building some momentum.

With a full squad of sixteen, numbers that seem to have sprung up out of nowhere, the M2s were ready to pounce on their opposition. The first ten minutes saw South do precisely the opposite of that, with a slow start that thankfully wasn't capitalised upon by St Ives. Once we sorted out our structure however, South began to pick up the tempo, and attacking moves soon came. Runs by Pearson and Jim were soon rewarded by tight shots on goal, and South began to dominate. Enter this week's lemon of the match, Ed Creedy. With the M1s enthusiastically supporting from the sidelines, Creedy demonstrated the attacking prowess of the M2s by shipping four chances wide in front of the home crowd, leaving the score level at 0-0 at halftime. Pearson taking the ball to the head the only moment of interest late in the first half.

South started the second half strongly, and after another sparkling miss or two from Creedy, St Ives pounced on some sloppy South passing to hammer home a goal against the run of play.

Frustrated by the lack of finishing from the forwards, Pete Richer showed them how it's done by bundling the ball over from a dazzling two feet out, and though South continued to press, they couldn't add to the scoreline. A few late green cards to Dave Aston and Tom Blair added some drama to the closing stages, but the match closed out as a frustrating 1-1 draw.

Despite some frustration, the M2s have taken five points in the last three games, and South head to Peterborough next week, targeting a big win to keep the season building.

It's unclear how many chances he missed, some have said four, others five, some even say it was seven...
