Ladies' 1sts beat Sawtry Ladies

The L1s stepped out into the sunshine to play Sawtry, a team of experienced players who always give us a run for our money. The plan was to bamboozle our opposition with cheerfulness (and sort out the press, and score goals) and it all went just dandy. Lindsey set the tone for the match with an independent move from right mid, along the baseline and directly into goal after about 10 minutes. Sawtry put plenty of pressure on the defence who did well not to concede many shorts and keep the backboard unblemished, in large part to the atheleticism of the flying lemon Loopy, who earned herself the man of the match award for her efforts.

In the second half, a move for Georgie to the front of the diamond was quickly rewarded as she proceeded to score once herself (at the end of a great team effort to pass the ball around the circle and find a gap on the goal line) then set the next one up with a cross to Laura who swept the ball in from the near post. Sawtry's goal strictly is reputed to have come off one of their feet, but was impressive and perhaps deserved nonetheless.

Overall, a great day of hockey with a lovely team spirit with hard work and good skills from everyone on the pitch.
