Men's 4ths get their first point of the season against Bourne Deeping 5

The first point of the season was gained in dramatic circumstances as CSouth 4ths came back from 4 - 1 down against a skillful, mainly young and fast Deeping team with vocal local support to snatch a draw.

It all looked good at the start as per usual with CSouth taking the lead. James Raikes pounced onto the ball at the top of the D, with defenders in a flap all around him, to slot it carefully into goal. This woke up the home team who dominated the rest of the first half, scoring 3 goals with a variety of approaches, mainly arising from rapid passing moves and players in space taking their opportunities.

CSouth were not out of it, with midfield dynamo Whittaker-Marchman pivotal to our best plays, and the Monckosaurous firing his trademark thunderbolts upfield, but the perennial problem in the final third of the pitch meant that few clearcut chances arose.

After the interval things continued in similar vein; Deeping snatched a fourth goal, and by now their confidence was high. The time had come for action, and the man to step up was Boris Lossy. He epitomised the "We're losing but what the hell....they only have eleven players too" up and at 'em attitude of the late lamented Corporal Jones/Clive Dunn. A pinpoint John Greaves cross from the right found Boris on the P-spot to smash the ball into goal. Shortly after this another route one Monck blaster found hopalong Crowther lurking upfield; Charles C laid the ball off to Boris L who coolly rounded the keeper for his second. Could this be a comeback ???

Deeping's fifth goal 7 mins from the end made this look unlikely, but an accurate Monck free hit from within the opposition half to Greaves arrived at the same time as the keeper, but Greaves' annoying hassling discombobulated him enough to push the ball into his own net.

This gave renewed hope, and hero of the moment Charles Crowther was able to capitalise on another Greaves cross to net the final equalising goal from close range.

Deeping is a long way away. The chips were good in the pub afterwards.

Played well on his one working leg. Scored equaliser at the end. Played through the pain throughout. Hero.
