M1 0-7 Peterborough Town Mens 3

Jim Lockhart

Whether it was the late afternoon start or the hostile home crowd that upset South's rhythm, their rhythm was undoubtedly upset. Yet another reshuffled defensive line-up meant that South met the league leaders already on the back foot. Peterborough showed their talent and on occasion left the Cambridge players chasing shadows, notably when their captain surged from defence, played a neat one-two with their right-half and rifled the ball high into the net.

It didn't help that South were struggling to put any sort of a game together. The second half showed a bit more grit from South players, but a lack of invention again meant that possession wasn't retained and the home side's goal was rarely threatened.

This defeat puts the greens in a rather precarious position towards the bottom of the division and next weeks key match against bottom club. Wisbech. is now key. To drop a further three points is unthinkable.
